BHF Talia: Fjord Horse for Sale

Norwegian fjord mare, dun, 7 years old, from Blue Heron Farm in Massachusetts

Well bred coming 9 year old brown dun Norwegian fjord mare. Talia is a pretty young horse ready to progress in any direction. She has a super attitude, and will do anything for her rider. When we acquired her and her dam (OH Tianna), she had essentially been a pasture pet her entire life and was pretty spooky. Although she did have good ground manners for farrier and vet, etc., she had had no real training or knowledge of what was expected of her. We focused on bringing her along slowly and deliberately for the past four seasons and she has responded really well. When we work her in the round pen, she is very willing and forward, and responds to voice commands (walk, trot, canter, easy, whoa) readily.

Like her mother, Talia is a hard-working mare who is accomplished in the Hunter Jumper ring. She will comfortably jump 2'6" with great potential for higher jumps. In dressage she has done very well at intro level dressage tests and has a sweet and gentle temperament. She is very good at getting along with other horses, and overall is a willing and honest horse who listens to her riders and is a great ride for any level. She is used to a single jointed snaffle bit. At this point, we have not trained her to drive, but, based on our experience of the past 25 years with Fjords, we are confident that, with a slow and steady introduction to harnesses and carts/carriages, she will take to the discipline well. She is about 14.1 with good bone and hooves. We have her complete vet records and she has never had any health/soundness issues. At a farm where she will be worked with more regularly and continued in training, she will continue to blossom and reach her full potential. I can honestly say that she has no bad habits: she loads easily, stands for vet and farrier, clips with power clippers, and respects our personal space. She has been out on rugged wooded trails both in groups and alone with no spookiness even when exposed to our Springer Spaniel's antics, "saber-toothed chipmunks" and other distractions.
This mare is just a pleasure to ride. She has competed in local gymkhanas, where she was the season grand overall champion, and had several excellent dressage scores in 2011. We believe Thalia is truly a special young mare who will only get better with continued experience.
