Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the farm has returned to normal operations. Guests will be again be able to observe and interact with us, our dairy goats, and Norwegian Fjord horses. After a successful and productive sugaring season and an initially rainy, but then historically dry summer, Fall has us preparing for winter and the next sugaring season. In 2023 and 2024, we were fortunate to be awarded two matching competitive grants from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), and from the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) for which we are extremely grateful. The grants enabled us to upgrade our sugarhouse infrastructure, including upgrading the capacity of our Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) machine and vacuum pump, as well as install a new, highly efficient LaPierre Fusion X exaporator, components that are the heart of a modern commercial sugarhouse. We’ve also been pleased to continue a working partnership with the owners of Ridge Hill Farm in nearby Buckland, Mass. The Ridge Hill partners, Ru Oarcea, Jasmine Atsalis-Gogel and Daniel Waters, are part of a new generation of young farmers, who, in addition to a small commercial logging business, are experienced maple sugar makers that have worked in the maple industry for many years. Collectively and individually they bring a strong skill set and advanced expertise to the relationship. Their knowledge and strong work ethic, combined with the competitive grants, have enabled us to conduct a major renewal of our sugaring tubing system that dramatically increased our syrup yield even with fewer taps than previously. We look forward to many years of fruitful cooperation. The vegetable gardens that we share with guests have been put to bed for the winter, and we are putting in the wood to fire our evaporator in 2026.
The farm is 130 acres, so there’s plenty of space to explore. Prior your arrival, the rental itself and all linens and towels will be thoroughly cleaned for your comfort and safety. In addition, we will still provide hand sanitizer and chlorine spray solutions for your use when here. In season, we will be happy to share produce from our gardens and provide you with a 1/2 dozen to a dozen farm fresh eggs from our hens.
